TXAKOLI TOUR

After picking you up at your hotel in San Sebastian, our tour guide will take you to Getaria, home to the most famous txakoli D.O. (designation of origin). On the way, you will discover the beautiful landscapes of the Basque interior and the Basque coast. The first stop before arriving to Getaria will be the quaint little village of Zumaia, where you will be able to get some stunning views of a unique geologic rock formation called flysch.

Once in Getaria, you will be driven through the rolling hills that surround the village and make your way to a small family-run txakoli winery. While visiting this winery, you will learn about the history of txakoli and its evolution and how today’s modern technologies are combined with tradition means for its production. And as you would expect, the visit will be followed by a wine tasting.

The tour will continue at the beautiful town of Getaria, where you will be able to stroll through its old town and port area. Apart from the txakoli, Getaria is also famous for its fish and seafood culture and you will be able to enjoy some of it for lunch at one of the many local restaurants. A bottle of local txakoli is of course, the best pairing.

In the afternoon, you will have the possibility to visit a second txakoli winery or, if you are interested in fashion, you may want to visit the Balenciaga Museum instead (the fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga was born in Getaria in 1895).

The tour will end back at your hotel, where the guide will drop you off.
